  • FindMyPast.com (Family Tree Software)

    Run by the National Archives of the UK so is useful for families with ancestors from different parts of Britain.

  • MyHeritage.com (Family Tree Software)

    I use this for the fan feature - you can see multiple generations of direct ancestors on one page.

  • FamilySearch.com (Family Tree Software)

    This site is run by LDS (Mormons) and I don’t use it much but it could be useful for families in multiple countries.

  • ScotlandsPeople.com

    Must-have for Scottish research: birth, marriage, death + Kirk Session records back to 1553. Pay-as-you-go.

    History, maps, records, and so much more. And its free! You can order specific documents online.
